Tinkers Green

The preferred option for the redevelopment of Tinkers Green has now been chosen, following feedback we received from the last round of consultation.

I would just like to state that I am disgusted that there are not going to be any 1 or 2 bed flats to buy. They were in the initial set of 3 plans, but because people wanted bigger gardens, all the properties are now only council rented. So again, because I am a single female with no children and I work, I still don’t have an option of looking at these new properties and will prob end up living at home with my parent until I’m 50. Do you think this is acceptable because I don’t!

At present, the final mix of housing and the sort of tenure mix for the redevelopment of the Tinkers Green and Kerria estates has not been decided. This will be a matter for consideration by the council’s cabinet later this year and all views will be considered.

There are a number of providers offering shared ownership which is low cost affordable home ownership within the borough. This allows households to purchase a percentage of a property which they buy with a mortgage, or other available monies and the remaining percentage is owned by a registered provider (Housing association) who the household pay an affordable rent to. There are options to buy the property out right through a process called staircasing where the household increases the percentage they own, and the registered provider decreases their share.

These are available on some new build property and on re-sales, and can be viewed on http://www.rightmove.co.uk (filter your results and click “shared ownership”), and on http://www.helptobuymidlands.co.uk.
